Spring Colors

When Inspiration Meets Bad Makeup...

Hey, it's happened to all of us... You get a great idea and when you try to execute your idea, your resources come up short!

That is what happened to me with this week's makeup look.
I was going to do a fresh and "springy" look featuring a favorite brand of mineral makeup.
Guess what?  The colors I selected were CRAP.  NO pigmentation, and they were uneven upon application.  It's like there was more "filler" ingredients than pigment!

Needless to say I went through my collection and threw out more than half of my colors, and have vowed NEVER to purchase from them again.  This was the 3rd time I had tried to create a look with this brand and got bad results. Not to mention this brand overcharges for SAMPLES.  I'm DONE!

THE GOOD NEWS is that I was able to achieve a look that I liked by adding in other colors from other brands, so I just turned a negative into a positive! :-)

(Next time I will happily return to using my beloved Rose Marie Shadows. THEY ARE AWESOME!!)

So, here is the finished result :-)  I added some cute rhinestones for accent.
Those can be omitted if you desire.

EYES:
♥ UDPP
♥ Nyx Jumbo Pencil in Milk to lid and waterline
♥ Off-white shadow from brow to crease
♥ Purple shadow to crease and lower lash line
♥ Soft pink shadow to blend crease color up and out to lid
♥ Nyx Shimmer Roll on in Green to lid
♥ Black Shadow to outer V and crease
♥ Black eyeliner and mascara
♥ Red Cherry Lashes in 76's
♥ Rhinestones adhered with lash glue to lower lash line

BLUSH & CONTOUR:

♥ Nyx Powder Blush in Amber applied to apples of cheeks
♥ Coastal Scents Contour Palette
Dark brown shade used to contour cheek bones, temples, nose, and jaw.
White shade used to highlight center of forehead, under eyes, tip of nose, and chin.

 LIPS:

Ultimately I was happy with the end result :-)  AND I got to make some room in my makeup drawer for more (and better) makeup ;-)

Colleen

Seashore and Shimmer

For this week's makeup look I wanted to do something easy, bright, and fresh. Inspired by my daydreams of sitting on a beach somewhere with a Mai Tai and a terrible sunburn... :-(
(I KNOW!! It's terrible! I'm so pale I need SPF 500 and a protective tarp at all times!)

Anyway- I will pass on the sunburn, and move back on to my daydreams...

Aloha everyone :-)

Inspired by: Old Hollywood Glam

For this week's makeup look, I wanted to do something inspired by old Hollywood glamour.
I've been seeing a bunch of it pop up lately, and I figured I would play with the concept
and put my own Vanity and Vodka touch to it. :-)

I used a really fun MUA palette for this, so if you have this palette,
let me know what you think!

The shadows came from the beautiful MUA Dusk Till Dawn Palette.

For this look I did a gradient contoured eye. When I see photos of this look, it is beautifully matte in finish.  However- I combined both shimmer and matte shadows to complete the look.

EYES:

♥ UDPP
♥ Nyx Jumbo pencil in Yogurt to lid
♥ Ulta shadow in Naked from brow to crease
♥ MUA Shadow #4 (deep beige) to crease
♥ MUA Shadow #5 (shimmer mauve) to blend and diffuse crease color
up and out towards brow bone
♥ MUA Shadow #2 (deep silver) to outer v and crease to add contour
♥ MUA Shadow #1 (shimmer vanilla) to lid
♥ MUA Shadow #6 (shimmer steel blue) to lower lash line
BLUE?  Yes. Blue :-)
(I'm just having fun here, and I wanted a pop of color!)
♥ NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk to waterline
♥ MUA Shadow #3 (shimmer white) to set the water line
♥ Black eyeliner/ mascara
♥ Red Cherry Lashes in #47's

BLUSH:

♥ Ulta Shadow in Afterglow

LIPS:

♥ Be A Bombshell gloss in Hot Mess
Usually this makeup style calls for a very matte red lip color.
I'm deciding to switch it up for the heck of it and go with a pigmented gloss :)

I always love to play with makeup genres and their interpretations.  This is a really classic look that I added a little personal twist to.  I hope you've enjoyed it and maybe found a bit of inspiration :-)

Thank you so much for visiting! I truly love it when you do!
Have a beautiful day ♥
xoxo,
Colleen
