My Regimen For An Aggressive and Effective AT-HOME Chemical Peel

 Hey Everyone!

I often get questions regarding my at-home skin care, and while I could go on at length on this topic and it's many sub-topics, I want to post the protocol for my most favorite at-home treatment, an easy glycolic acid peel. This protocol is safe, aggressive, and effective. You will definitely see results, and you will definitely feel this the next day (or more) depending upon your skin sensitivity.

I do this once every few weeks because my skin is sensitive.  The process takes about 10 minutes and is yields great results.

If you are going to try this regimen, please start gently and LISTEN to your skin. If you experience strong discomfort at any time, do not continue!

I use glycolic acid for this treatment because it is easy to use, affordable, and does a great job of sloughing off dead skin cells and debris on the surface of the skin. Alone, this acid is very effective.  I add a couple of other steps to my process to make this a bit more aggressive.
WHY would I want to do that? Especially with sensitive skin?
Because the healing process following an acid peel stimulates collagen and cell-turnover, thus creating smoother, plump, glowing, fresh skin! With deeper skin penetration, the better results!
I have aging skin that is prone to breakouts, so I want to preserve a fresh, clear complexion as long as I can. 😊

Here are the steps to my at-home peel!
(Note: Please always do a test patch when working with any new acidic skin treatments. 😉)

STEP ONE: Cleanse the skin.

You can use any cleanser. My favorite cleanser of all time is Purity Made Simple One Step Facial Cleanser by Philosophy.

During my cleansing, I gently shave off the peach fuzz off my face. Your skin care professional will refer to this step as "dermaplaning" and this is EXTREMELY helpful in clearing away all the unnecessary fuzz and dead skin cells so that products can penetrate your skin more efficiently. (Note: Your hair will NOT grow back darker or thicker. Your hair will ONLY do so if hormonal changes within your body warrant it. So have no fear. I've been doing this for years, and it is literally life-changing!)  I use a regular razor for this - but one that I use for my face ONLY!
After your skin is freshly cleansed, dry thoroughly!

Very occassionaly, I will add the use of a Derma Roller to create teeny tiny little holes in the surface of my skin. I am very gentle with this because this can be a very aggressive treatment by itself! I recommend using a Derma Roller that is .25mm to .50mm.  Anything larger is not recommended for this treatment, as you will be putting acid ON TOP of those little holes, and it will be uncomfortable! This step is to increase the penetration of the glycolic acid and will give you optimal results. I typically do a few swipes all over my face and then I am ready for my next step!

This Derma Roller is one that I find to be very sufficient.
Again, proceed with this step with caution (or omit it all together).
(Please follow product instructions, and remember to sanitize the roller (I use isopropyl alcohol) when you are done!)

I have been using ASDM Beverly Hills Glycolic Acid for AGES! I have used up to 30% strength, but my favorite is 10%.  I feel like anything stronger creates irritation for me. I recommend starting with a low percentage and working your way up. Trust me on this!

I apply a few dabs to a cotton pad and apply to my skin. You will feel the "stingle" immediately. Keep this on your skin for a couple minutes (glycolic acid is self-regulating... it will balance out and shut off on it's own. If for any reason it becomes too uncomfortable and you need to SLAM THE BREAKS on the acid, simply apply a cool wet wash cloth, and it will shut down and cool off). After a couple of minutes, rinse this off, and do another cleanse with a gentle cleanser and cool water.

Follow up with your favorite serum and moisturizer!

I am currently using Maple Holistics Argan Oil as my serum, and I love it.
Sometimes I will mix in a couple drops of Hyaluronic Acid for extra moisture.

The moisturizer I use following this treatment is Belif True Cream - Moisture Bomb
It is VERY rich and nourishing, and my skin loves this!!google!Product_Listing_Ads&cagpspn=pla&CATCI=pla-293946777986&CAAGID=102825324120&CAWELAID=330000200001980571

Please remember to ALWAYS wear a SPF every day, but ESPECIALLY after any aggressive treatment! 😊
